Every good book has a plot but also one or more subplots. Sometimes for NaNoWriMo you’ve begun your book without much of a plot to begin with and now you need worry about subplots?

Much like Tip 4’s suggestions about finding characters, finding plot and subplot ideas can be as simple as watching and listening to things going on around you. You can use the ideas you get from looking at photos on Flickr.com or from watching a few minutes of an unfamiliar soap as I mention in Tip 4.

Other ways to generate ideas include:

• reading your local newspaper
• the online version of newspapers in different cities.
• read the forums on sites such as PlentyofFish.com or Fark.com
• do a web search on Google or Yahoo for “weird news”
• read the public timeline on Twitter.com
• use an evil overlord plot generator
• use a movie script plot generator (a plot’s a plot right?)
• use a Dan Brown plot generator
• listen to the lyrics of a song and use the idea as a plot.
• read the misheard lyrics of a song and use that idea as a plot
• visit Post Secret and read the anonymous postcards.
