Merlene’s “Fukkit List” 2008
A few days ago inspired by Jeff Pulver’s Bucket List meme I wrote a “Bucket List” for 2008. A list of things I want to accomplish.
Today I give you my “Fukkit List”. All of the things that aren’t working that I’m working to remove from my life:
- Naysayers - You know… those negative “glass is half empty” type people. I seem to have a number of them in my life. These are the people who tell you “you can’t do that” when you have an idea or “that’ll never work out” when you have a goal.
- Advice-that-doesn’t-helpers - You probably know these people too. They’re those folks who are constantly giving you advice on how you should live your life. Unasked for advice on everything from how you eat to how you parent to how you dress to how you spend your time. You know what people? If I wanted to be you I would be. Sorry to break it to you, I’m me. Deal with it.
- Stuff - George Carlin does a great monologue about “stuff”. I’m tired of stuff. We live in a society that seems to be constantly buying new stuff. We don’t own our possessions. Our possessions own us! I look around my home and at times think… wow I should get a new whatsit or a shiny new thingamajig. Then I think… I really need a bigger place to live, I have all this stuff. Nope time to edit. Big time. Do I really need over 1000 books? Or would I better off with a shiny library card?
- Internal-Nagger - She’s the voice in your head that has all that negative chatter. “You’re going to fail”, “You look fat in those pants”, “Why bother no one will appreciate it” and so on. Time to muzzle that voice and listen to the other voices. Hmm… Ok let’s not talk about the other voices in my head just now hehe.
There’s more for the “fukkit” list but that’s a good start for today ![]()

Merlene, mind if I borrow your list. Sure can use it myself!
All success

Merlene,
Excellent list! I don’t know if I can sneak this piece into the enterprise given the name…as clever as it is.
I agree that knowing what you DON’T want or need in your life is just as critical as knowing what you want or need.
Good stuff! Those negative elements (people included) will despise this list, but so what.
Here’s an utter I created at the end of last year called Obey the Urge to Purge which covered a similar concept for your F*It list but mostly regarding your digital junk, but also the negative people in your contact list. http://moourl.com/paipurge
My Identity Crisis piece discussed in greater detail how we can “clean up” our act online by using social aggregators, OpenID, Plaxo, etc. etc. http://moourl.com/idcrisis
Glad to meet you. I’m a fan of the Broganator too!

I love this list, Merlene - and the whole idea. Especially good b/c of the F-connection: as I’ve told my conservative mom many times, there are times when it’s *appropriate* to cuss about things . . . like when people are sapping your life. Go get ‘em!
Merlene,
This is fantastic. Great post!
Ripple On!!!

This is a great idea. I like. If I incorporate this somehow I’ll be sure to link this post.
